The humble bathroom it’s the one place where you can grab a moment to yourself even if it’s only 5 minutes. It’s also the first place and last place you visit, but if you’re working from home, it’s also a regular visit!

In recent years bathroom design has changed drastically. No longer do you have to go with an all-white goods look. There are so many ways to make your bathroom your own and I’m going to share a few of them below.

How do you want it to feel?

First and foremost, we need to look at the bathroom like any other room in the house and ask ourselves how do you want it to feel? Refreshing and energising for the day ahead or a sanctuary to get away from it all? It’s one of the key factors which is often missed.

Think about when you’ll be using this space whether it’s a family bathroom and needs to work for everyone or the ensuite where you can add a personal touch?

Ditch the white

It’s time to ditch the white and embrace colour! There are hundreds of choices available for sanitary ware, tiles even toilets!

Don’t feel like you have to go for a white vanity unit just because you’re used to it.

Coloured sanitary ware feel sophisticated and unique. Important thing to remember is to go for what you like and not what you think you should like or what your neighbour tells you!

Use natural materials

In my last post about 2021 trends, I spoke about bringing natural materials like wood into kitchens and bathrooms. Using materials like wood can help soften the harsh edges and clean lines. A couple of ways to do this is to upcycle a wooden unit and ask your builder to place the sink inside the unit. The second is to add vintage pieces, it could be a chair or a stool to hang your clothes.

Make it luxurious

You don’t need to use Calacatta marble tiles all over however making your bathroom feel luxurious can make all the difference. After a long hard day imagine relaxing in your very own spa? Sounds lush I’m there already!

Tactile surfaces

We are edging closer to finishes which we can touch and whets our curiosity. Ribbed units have been seen on glass doors and now moving into cabinets and even kitchen islands. I think the ribbed effect looks beautiful on ribbed glass.
